    I had the same problem as you, also use ffoomatic but haven´t found solution at this moment ;(. BUT THERE IS A BETTER SOLUTION, Yosemite has drivers for HP Laserjet 2600, install your HP Laserjet 1600 printer using this driver and all sorted.
